Cherokee Lake Realty is awarding a $500.00 scholarship to a college bound student. while stimulating interest in Cherokee Lake. The recipient of the award may use the funds for books, required supplies, and/or incidentals for their first year of college. Entrants will write an essay on What Cherokee Lake means to the community of Grainger County. Current senior students at Grainger High School are eligible. The essay must be typed on 8.5×11 unlined paper with a minimum of 1,000 words. Footnotes and references, if used, must be included. A cover page is required, and a number will be assigned to each paper to ensure anonymity and fairness during the judging process. If the essay identifies your family, please write it in the third person in a manner not to identify the author. Entrants will provide a statement permitting the essay to be published. Each essay will be judged on content, grammar, and overall effect. The purpose of the essay is to promote an interest and knowledge of the history of Cherokee Lake. The scholarship program was implemented to help fulfill those objectives. The deadline for submission of the essay has been set for April 12th.
