RUTLEDGE – Grainger High School senior Mallory Smith has been named the winner of the $500 Cherokee Lake Realty college scholarship.

College-bound seniors submitted essays on the topic of what Cherokee Lake means to the community of Grainger County. Essays were judged on content, grammar and overall effect.

Cherokee Lake Realty Owner and Principal Managing Broker Felix Valdes, B.B.A said four essays were submitted in the essay contest for a $500 college scholarship. Seniors Hailey Williamson, Patience Stout, and Natalie McReynolds also submitted essays.

Valdes said, “Four great essays were turned in. I spent several days reading these, over and over again.”

He said because this was the inaugural year of the scholarship and time was limited for the students to prepare the essays, he is also awarding consolation prizes to Williamson, Stout and McReynolds in the amount of $200 for college expenses.
